MERCE CUNNINGHAM DANCE COMPANY
Description

Cunningham - Cage - Rauschenberg :

Friday 16th april : "Suite for Five", "Min Event", "Xover"

Saturday  17th april : "Xover", "Crises", "Biped"

Merce Cunningham had been to Monaco in 2002 to receive a Nijinsky Award presented by Rauschenberg. And now that he has just departed this world, the arrival of his own company will take on its full meaning of a sentimental journey to the Principality of Monaco. The american choreographer brought about one of the biggest revolutions in the history of ballet  after Diaghilev by inventing the idea of a total break away between dance and music. It is a fact that only two major trends really exist : that of Les Ballets Russes and that of  Cunningham. It is not to be forgotten that the master’s breakthrough which paved the way to all creative outlets of the 20th and 21st century, certainly did not consist of an oversight but of a particular body language never disregarded nor neglected. The audience will be given the opportunity to enjoy the emblematic jubilation of Cunningham’s creations : the first and the last collaboration between Cage and Rauschenberg with Biped which remains the most accomplished work since its creation in 1999 regarding the relation between dance and new technologies.
